Why does it rain?

One moment it's burning down,
You enjoy the feel of being alive,
The rays caress your skin,
The wind ruffles your hair,
A smile curves your lips,
A giggle starts to escape,
Just when it all feels right,
The clouds drift shut,
The sun is blocked out,
You try to peer beyond the clouds,
But they turn sad faces your way,
Faces blackened by despair,
Despair so real you can feel it sizzle,
It rolls off the clouds in booming cracks,
You begin to quake,
Something in you answers back,
In that moment,
Human and nature becomes kin,
The clouds begin to cry,
For in their state of despair,
They discovered a kindred soul,
You reach out your hands to comfort them,
But you cannot stroke what you cannot feel,
So you content yourself to catch their tears instead,
You feel it roll down your skin,
Seep into your heart and cuddle your soul,
A little child wanders by,
Confusion evident in her stare,
She turns to you and asks,
Why does it rain?
And you whisper to her,
Because the clouds have found a friend.
